Research by Dr. Kathryn E. Perez found that while it was previously believed that there was a single invasive Praticolella species involved (i.e. Praticolella griseola), "....there are actually three species of Praticolella invasive in the U. S., two of which were previously unknown." The specimens illustrated here have been determined to be Praticolella mexicana, which was recently described.* Invasive Praticolella have thus far been found in Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas. To date (11/8/2011), live specimens have only been found at four locations in northeast Florida (three in Duval County and one in Clay County). A single empty shell was also found at an additional location in Duval County.
